Nairn Sainsburys
According to reports in the Nairnshire Telegraph, indicators are the application for Sainsburys could be rejected.
Is it just me who thinks that this just shows local government as dysfunctional?
The application was approved by the local council, but this contravened a Local Plan that was already out of date by its own admission and never updated.
We then have the farce of having to have a local enquiry about the issue, with the surreal situation of the Co-op - which runs a monopoly in retail in Nairn - being allowed to prosecute against the plan.
Co-op of course being the company which now owns the rotting buildings along the A96 that makes people think Nairn is run down, and has shown little interest in expanding the town centre supermarket.
What is even more bizarre is that - as even identified in the original Local Plan - the majority of residents shop out of town anyway.
So by not allowing the Sainsburys development, we would end up with the Scottish Government telling Scotland we must do more to be green - but that long shopping journeys are far more preferable to local shopping!
Who is actually making a decision on Sainsburys in the first place? Is it an elected official? If so, which one?
Am I the only one who thinks a rejection of Sainsburys would be bad news all round for Nairn?
